Another item completed from my mending/repair list: I've had these headphones for years and the original ear pads were disintegrating. I knit a couple of small flat circles that I've been using as replacement ear pads, but they weren't attached in any way so they just had to be held on by the pressure of the headphones. Now I've added some little straps so that the ear pads can stay attached to the headphones even when I take them off. They're kind of wonky and messy because I improvised them, but they serve the purpose just fine! I am choosing to interpret the gaps where the headphones slide into the straps as "deliberate holes" for this week's #Fiberuary prompt :)
@emma Full stop - these look great! They’re like little sweaters that snuggle against your ears. I’m thinking most audio professionals would cringe at the sight because of “degrading sound quality” but the concept is wonderful!
@amart@hachyderm.io thank you! yeah, I was actually a little uncertain at first about whether it would muffle the sound or something, but to my untrained ears, there's not any noticeable difference
@emma
Amazing. Stealing this idea.
@emma so going to copy the idea, love it! Thank you for sharing
@nodami@mastodon.social thank you! :)
@emma Those straps are such a great idea! They certainly don't look wonky or messy to me, at least not in these photos.
When I made replacement covers once ages ago, I think I just did a few decrease rounds at the end to make them curl around the edge of the speaker, and relied on the wool's stretchiness to allow them to be put on and (theoretically) taken off again (which I tried not to do much - so not sure about the longevity of that solution)
